Endoscopy Diagnostics for Pets in Mississauga
Endoscopy, or “scoping”, is a diagnostic procedure which uses fiber‐optic technology to see the internal surface of your pet’s intestinal tract or respiratory system.
Scoping can be performed on the upper gastro‐intestinal tract, the lower intestinal tract, or even the major airways allowing us to see obstructions, lesions, ulcers, and masses.
This technology allows our veterinarians to visualize and biopsy (obtaining samples of tissue for testing) your pet’s internal organs without the need for invasive surgery. It can, for example, allow us to retrieve accidentally swallowed items such as coins, bones, string, or even needles without the need for surgery.
Endoscopy procedures require a general anesthetic, and are performed in our hospital by a board certified internal medicine specialist.
