Parasites - Fleas, Heartworm, Ticks, Worms, Lice, Mites - Control & Prevention

In Canada, we seldom think of parasite infection for ourselves, apart from head lice and pinworms (neither of which have anything to do with our pets). One hundred years ago, this was a different story. Intestinal parasites were common in North America, until it became a Health Care Policy to eliminate parasites from the human population. We have the ability to attempt to do the same thing for our pets. Parasites can be categorized as internal (intestinal worms, heartworms, giardia, lungworms), and external (fleas, ticks, lice, mites). Some treatments for various parasites overlap, but generally, specific diagnosis is required for treatment. As some parasites will pass to people, it is very important to do what you can to eliminate them completely, and to prevent them whenever possible. Fortunately, we have safe, effective and easy to use treatments for internal parasites. Diseases that may have been extremely serious previously, are now easy to handle, with the constant research on the biology of parasites.
